Home – About Us

Welcome to Knutsford & District Model Flying Club, our website is kindly hosted by BMFA as we are one of their affiliated Clubs.

We fly a variety of fixed wing models, electric and i.c. powered and we also have an active free flight section.

The members generally fly during weekdays all year round when weather and ground conditions allow.

We welcome new members, from those who might want to try out the activity for the first time through to experienced flyers who may be looking for a cost effective club within a very attractive setting.

The Club can provide a training model aircraft which can be flown with a buddy box system allowing complete beginners the chance to fly, and our instructors can provide ongoing training to reach the standard where a proficiency test can be taken to enable solo flight.

COVID-19

The Club is following guidance provided by the BMFA regarding safe flying practices and issues regular updates to the membership on social distancing etc. We also operate a 'Track & Trace' system that records the names of people flying at Tatton Park.

The Club was formed in 1949 when Tatton Park near Knutsford in Cheshire, was in the hands of a private owner, Lord Egerton.  It is mainly because of his interest and foresight that we are able to enjoy this location today. On the death of Lord Egerton the park passed to the National Trust, which in turn leased it to Cheshire County Council. The good record of the Club enabled it to gain full responsibility and self-regulation of the powered model flying within the park, a situation that still remains today.
